简介

VLDB(Very Large Data Bases)中国数据库学院由VLDB基金会赞助成立,下属于中国计算机学会数据库专业委员会, 旨在为中国从事或有志于从事数据库理论与技术研究的教师、学者和研究生提供一个学习和交流的机会。学院每年不定期地邀请数据库及相关领域内国际知名的学者来中国讲学,以促进我国对国际数据库学科前沿全面及时了解,并在此前提下,立足应用研发具有特色的数据管理技术和系统。

第19届VLDB暑期学校将于2020年7月13日至7月17日举办,由山东大学计算机科学与技术学院承办,主题聚焦区块链数据管理技术中的关键问题。 主讲教授是国际上享有很高学术声誉的区块链数据库专家: 香港浸会大学教授 Jianliang Xu;华东师范大学教授 金澈清;新加坡科技设计大学助理教授 Dinh Tien Tuan Anh;新加坡国立大学高级研究员 Dumitrel Loghin。本届暑期学校还将开展形式多样的前沿讲座和研讨,为学员提供与国际知名学者的充分交流机会。

  1. 本年度计划招收学员100名。学员录取由VLDB 中国数据库学院负责,将根据申请条件以及学校地区平衡的原则进行录取。
  2. 申请条件:从事数据库研究的研究生和青年教师,需由中国计算机学会数据库专委会委员推荐,研究生需导师同意(若导师为数据库专委会委员,导师可同时作为推荐人)。
  3. 本次会议为线上会议,免学员报名费。
  4. 请报名者填写报名表(点击下载

主题演讲者简介

Dr. C. Mohan (Tsinghua University)


Biography:

Dr. C. Mohan is currently a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University in China and an Honorary Advisor to the Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA) in India. He retired in June 2020 from being an IBM Fellow at the IBM Almaden Research Center in Silicon Valley. He was an IBM researcher for 38.5 years in the database, blockchain and related areas, impacting numerous IBM and non-IBM products, the research and academic communities, and standards, especially with his invention of the well-known ARIES family of database locking and recovery algorithms, and the Presumed Abort distributed commit protocol. This IBM (1997), ACM (2002) and IEEE (2002) Fellow has also served as the IBM India Chief Scientist (2006-2009). In addition to receiving the ACM SIGMOD Edgar F. Codd Innovations Award (1996), the VLDB 10 Year Best Paper Award (1999) and numerous IBM awards, Mohan was elected to the US and Indian National Academies of Engineering (2009) and named an IBM Master Inventor (1997). This Distinguished Alumnus of IIT Madras (1977) received his PhD at the University of Texas at Austin (1981). He is an inventor of 50 patents. During the last many years, he focused on Blockchain, Big Data and HTAP technologies (http://bit.ly/CMbcDB, http://bit.ly/CMgMDS). Since 2017, he has been an evangelist of permissioned blockchains and the myth buster of permissionless blockchains. In late 2019, he became an Honorary Advisor to TNeGA of Chennai for its blockchain and other projects. Since 2016, Mohan has been a Distinguished Visiting Professor of China’s prestigious Tsinghua University. He has served on the advisory board of IEEE Spectrum, and on numerous conference and journal boards. Mohan is a frequent speaker in North America, Europe and Asia. He has given talks in 43 countries. Mr. Wei Hu (Oracle Corporation)


Biography:

Wei Hu is the Senior Vice President of Development at Oracle Corporation. He has been with Oracle since 1998 and leads the development of Database High Availability and technologies related to Blockchain, Microservices, Sharding, and Globally Distributed Databases. Mr. Hu has B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), holds over 30 patents, and is the author and co-author of several books and papers.


Prof. XiuZhen Cheng (Shandong University)


Biography:

Prof. Xiuzhen Cheng received her MS and PhD degrees in computer science from the University of Minnesota -- Twin Cities, in 2000 and 2002, respectively. She is a professor in School of Computer Science and Technology, Shandong University, China. Her current research focuses on Blockchain computing, intelligent Internet of Things, wireless and mobile security, and algorithm design and analysis. She is the founder and steering committee chair of the International Conference on Wireless Algorithms, Systems, and Applications (WASA, launched in 2006).  She served/is serving on the editorial boards of several technical journals (e.g. IEEE Transactions on Computers, IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine) and the technical program committees of many professional conferences/workshops (e.g. ACM Mobihoc, ACM Mobisys, IEEE INFOCOM, IEEE ICDCS, IEEE ICC, IEEE/ACM IWQoS). She also chaired several international conferences (e.g. ACM Mobihoc'14, IEEE PAC'18). Xiuzhen worked as a program director for the US National Science Foundation (NSF) from April to October in 2006 (full time), and from April 2008 to May 2010 (part time). She is a Fellow of IEEE.

Prof. Jianliang Xu (Hong Kong Baptist University)


Biography:

Prof. Xu joined the Computer Science Department of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) after he received his PhD degree in Computer Science from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2002. He obtained his BEng degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China in 1998. Prior to that, he received his secondary education from Suzhou High School from 1991 to 1994. Prof. Xu has been a visiting scholar at Pennsylvania State University, University Park (in Summer 2005) and a senior visiting fellow at Fudan University (in Winter 2009). He is serving as a director of the Blockchain and FinTech Lab and leads the Database Research Group at Hong Kong Baptist University.

Prof. Cheqing Jin (East China Normal University)


Biography:

Cheqing Jin, professor and vice dean of the School of Data Science and Engineering, East China Normal University. He is a member of China Computer Federation Technical Committee on Databases. His research interests include blockchain, data stream management, location-based services, uncertain data management and so on. He was the PI of several National Natural Science Foundations, and has co-authored 2 monographs and more than 100 papers. He received the first-level prize for Science and Technology of Shanghai, and the second-level prize for Science and Technology of the Ministry of education. He was guest editor of special issue “Blockchain Database Management” of Journal of Software, and PC co-chair of BlockDM 2020 workshop.

Dr. Dinh Tien Tuan Anh (Singapore University of Technology and Design)


Biography:

Dr. Dinh Tien Tuan Anh is an Assistant Professor at Singapore University of Technology and Design. His research lies at the intersection of distributed systems, databases and security. He is interested in building and applying security primitives, either based on cryptography or trusted hardware, to improve both security and performance of large scale systems. His PhD was in applying formal methods to verify security properties of P2P systems. His latest interest is centered around blockchains.

Dr. Dumitrel Loghin (National University of Singapore)


Biography:

Dumitrel Loghin received his BEng and MEng degrees from the University Politehnica of Bucharest, Romania, in 2010 and 2012, respectively, and the PhD degree in computer science from the National University of Singapore, Singapore, in 2017. He is currently a senior research fellow in the Database Systems Research Group at School of Computing, National University of Singapore. He is working under the supervision of Distinguished Professor Beng Chin Ooi. His research interests include parallel and distributed systems, embedded systems, blockchain and distributed databases, cloud and edge computing, and the time-energy performance of computer systems.
